Steve made 854 appearances for us in all competitions, making his debut in 1969 through to 1986.
On the way, he was part of the teams that won the League Cup in 1971 and 1973, the UEFA Cup in 1972 and then led us to back-to-back FA Cup wins in 1981 and 1982 and the UEFA Cup again in 1984, when he played the first leg against Anderlecht but was suspended for the second leg.
He delighted fans with an appearance at half-time, when he was asked what the club meant to him.
Steve replied: “It means Bill Nicholson, the double, the famous High Road, White Hart Lane, on the bus with Chas ‘N’ Dave, playing with Ossie and Ricky and wonderful players like Glenn Hoddle.
“It’s just an amazing place to play and when we were really at it, you lot got us going. Thank-you very much.”
