Stepping up

Posted on 6 July 2010  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

DAY TWO of pre-season training and a notable step-up from the 'light jog' of day one.

The morning started with movement preparation and injury prevention work - stretching exercises, hurdles, working with a medicine ball - before the lads split into four groups and got stuck into a tough-looking circuit.

This was interval running with different exercises at stations on three corners to work on aerobic endurance.

The circuit was over 500m and included 50m sprints and jogs and short, sharp work at the first two work stations. Then it was another two 50m sprints and two 50m jogs to the third work station, where the lads did sit-ups with medicine balls. A final 50m jog and they were back to the start.

They did five laps of the circuit. Xtra was sweating walking one end of the pitch to the other...

IT WAS back to ball work in the afternoon.

This time the squad was split into two groups. One group concentrated on possession work while the other took on an aerobic football circuit, passing, dribbling between between manequins and sprinting with the ball.

DAVID BENTLEY summed up pre-season training in his own inimitable style on Tuesday.

Xtra grabbed a word with the midfielder after the circuit in the morning.

"I suppose it's a bit like taking a bunjee jump," smiled 'Bents', pictured with Younes Kaboul below. "The anticipation of how it's going to feel is actually worse.

"You think about all the running before you go into it, but generally it's fine once you get out there. We're all used to it by now though."
