Kyle Walker has taken the first of his ‘little steps’ at Spurs.
The young full-back took his place in the starting line-up for our first competitive fixture of the campaign at Hearts on Thursday night.
It was a typically all-action performance from the 21-year-old, constantly looking to get forward and support Aaron Lennon down the right as we ran out 5-0 winners in the Europa League play-off, first leg.
Having spent last season on loan at QPR and then impressing at Villa in the Premier League, Kyle’s next target to make the right-back spot his own.
“It was an important match for me and hopefully it gives me a good starting position for the next game,” he said. “From a personal point of view, this is what I wanted and hopefully it will continue.
“I want to take little steps and to concentrate on my own performances at the moment and hopefully those little steps will continue and turn into big steps and I’ll get to my goal.”
Kyle was delighted to be part of such an impressive display at Tynecastle as we raced into a 3-0 lead by half-time.
“We passed the ball so well and when we get it going and the ball is zipping around, it’s great to be part of that,” he said. “It’s enjoyable to play in.
“Hopefully we can take this form into United on Monday and who knows what we can do there.”
