Stephen Kelly was delighted for Dean Marney after the midfielder's magnificent show against Everton.
In an incredible full home debut, Dean ran the show in the 5-2 victory against the Goodison outfit.
Dean opened the scoring, had a hand in two goals and then capped it all with a superb curler into the top corner from 30 yards.
He held onto his place for the 0-0 draw at Old Trafford. "I'm so happy for him," said Stephen, who came through the Academy ranks with Dean. "I've spoken to him and he can't quite believe what's happened.
"He gets thrown in at the deep end against Everton and he comes out with a performance like that.
"Everyone knew he was capable. I've played with Deano since we were 17 together and it's great to see him get a chance and do that well, his goals were fantastic and his overall performance was brilliant."
