Steffen's World Cup Diary: Surprise, surprise!

Posted on 24 June 2002  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Everyone is surprised about Germany's progress in the World Cup here but I suppose it shouldn't be a surprise really.

We always seem to make it to at least the quarter-finals in the major tournaments but the surprise this time is because we didn't play that well before the event.

We've only really played well for 90 minutes in one game, the 8-0 win against Saudi Arabia and we've had a little luck as well.

If you look at the games, we played well against Saudi but Cameroon had chances to go in front and then Ireland was the same, for 20 minutes we played good football but then Ireland were the better team.

Paraguay wasn't the best game either but we scored two minutes from the end and then America. They were the best team over the 90 minutes but again we scored the goal.

But it is always the same against Germany - it is not easy to beat us.

I think we will get through to the final now against South Korea even if it's via golden goal or penalties.

I take Brazil to meet Germany in the final although Turkey have had a good tournament, especially when they played Brazil in the group stages.

Everyone believes Brazil will win and perhaps that is where Turkey's chance is.

I think is had to be a Brazil versus Germany final but you never know - they way this World Cup has gone it could end up being Turkey v South Korea!
