Steffen's World Cup Diary: Group G

Posted on 29 May 2002  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

A European Championship winner with Germany, Steffen Freund has agreed to stretch his diary into the World Cup - starting with a run down of the groups. Today, Group G.

I'm convinced Italy will go through from Group G - even if it's via three nil-nil draws!

They are always dangerous in tournament football and one of those teams who play better and better with the harder teams they play against and the further they go.

They can certainly beat anyone in the tournament. They are not top favourites but they are due a win after Euro 2000 and the 1994 World Cup.

Croatia have plenty of experience and I can see Mexico and Ecuador competing well. Don't forget that Ecuador beat Brazil in qualfying.

I go with Italy to top the group but the other three are quirte close - perhaps Mexico will just do it.
