Steffen's World Cup Diary: Group E

Posted on 27 May 2002  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

A European Championship winner with Germany, Steffen Freund has agreed to stretch his diary into the World Cup - starting with a run down of the groups. Today, Group E.

Everyone said Group E was an easy group for Germany, but I'm not that sure.

Cameroon are the African Champions and they have a German manager in Winfried Schafer, so he will know the German team very well.

Then you have Ireland. They have to believe in themselves after their qualifying campaign and if a team beats Holland, you have to respect them. I think it will be tougher for Saudi Arabia.

I think Germany will win the group - I have to say that - but all three teams at the moment are very close and could beat each other on the right day.

I hope Germany do it, of course, and at the World Cup we are normally very strong. I take Ireland to finish second in the group but it is very hard - either team could lose to Cameroon as well.
