Boss Glenn admitted at the weekend that he had made a bid for Liverpool’s unsettled German international.
Ziege is a good friend of Steffen’s and our German midfield marauder believes the left-sided star is just what we need.
Steffen said: "Christian is a good friend of mine. He just needs a bit of luck. The situation at Liverpool was that he was injured two or three times and in the end the team played well and then you see how strong the Premier League is.
"A player like Christian Ziege, all that experience, is on the bench or in the stand.
"The situation is perfect to have him because he hasn’t had a good year at Liverpool. If we can sign him it will be a great deal for us.
"I know he’s ready to change. I know that. But he has a contract and you have to find a way and I hope Liverpool understand his situation and, if they let him go, to let him go for smaller money.
"He hasn’t played this season. I hope Tottenham and Liverpool find a way together."
Steffen sees a move for Christian as further positive news following the arrival of Gus Poyet and Teddy Sheringham.
He added: "If we have Christian, alongside Teddy and Gustavo Poyet, then I think we have a strong squad. I like the way from Glenn to bring the club forward. If you want to go for the top six, you have to sign players like that. It’s the level you need to move forward.
"Everyone knows that we need a player on the left side and if Christian is fit then he is one of the best players on the left side in Europe, definitely."
Steffen Freund is hoping Glenn Hoddle is successful in his attempts to lure Christian Ziege to the Lane.
