It was Steed's second goal for us after opening his Spurs account against Charlton in early December.
"It was a tough game for us with going one goal down and we were desperate to get back into the match," reflected Steed after the Fratton Park encounter. "We did it and I am happy to have scored the goal - especially with my head!
"I haven't scored many with my head, but it can happen. It was a good ball from Danny for me," added Steed, who said positional switches are not a concern for him and he will be happy to continue changing flanks as our busy period carries on over the next month.
"It is not a problem for me to play on the left, right or in the middle. I can play in different positions and will fill in where the manager wants.
"It has been a busy time and there are a lot of important games to come - the next one being in the FA Cup."
Steed Malbranque admitted that finding the net via his head is not a common occurrence. The midfield playmaker latched onto a fine Danny Muprhy cross minutes into the second half against Portsmouth to level the scores after Benjani opened the scoring with a fortunate deflected strike in the first half.
