Stars line up for reserves

Posted on 12 February 2001  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Chris Hughton will parade a host of first-team stars and young pretenders in Tuesday night’s reserve encounter against Wimbledon at St Albans (7.30pm).

The star attraction will be current Player of the Year Stephen Carr, who is looking to get games under his belt after a recent seven-week injury lay-off. He returned briefly in the FA Cup win at Charlton last week and for 30 minutes against Manchester City on Saturday.

Striker Chris Armstrong, who has suffered from groin problems all season, is also in action alongside Stephen Clemence, who as been replaced by Luke Young at left wing-back in our last two games.

Goalkeeper Ian Walker is back between the sticks after two fine first team performances and Willem Korsten will also feature up front.

Youngsters Matthew Etherington, who starred recently in the Premiership draw against Charlton, Simon Davies and Alton Thelwell will all play as will Anthony Gardner, who has featured in first team squads all season without breaking through.

Boss Chris said: “Obviously Stephen Carr is a big plus for us and Stephen Clemence, Chris Armstrong and Ian Walker, who had a couple of excellent games in the first team, will be involved.

“We then have what I would term the regulars with the likes of Korsten, Etherington, Davies, Thelwell and Gardner.

“It is a strong side and a nice mixture, the experienced players adding to what we’ve already got and looking to be a good influence on the younger lads.”
