Having just completed five months in the Eastern Mediterranean on operation Active Endeavour, the force has enjoyed a well-earned break in London. All huge football fans, sailors from HMS CORNWALL (UK), FGS NIEDERSACHSEN (GERMANY), NRP VASCO DA GAMA (PORTUGAL) and USS DOYLE (USA), were keen to pay us a visit to see behind the scenes and learn more about the history of Spurs and the stadium.
The visit was particularly poignant to one member of the group, Petty Officer Steward Deiren Beale of HMS CORNWALL, whose father is Spurs legend Phil Beale. Deiren enjoyed seeing just how much the Club had changed over the years and said “It’s fantastic to see photos of my dad still on the walls here; it just shows what a loyal, family club Tottenham are.”
At the end of their tour, Deiren on behalf of Commodore Richard Ibbotson DSC Royal Navy, (COMSTANAVFORLANT) was kind enough to present the Club with a plaque to commemorate their visit. Former Spurs player and now Assistant Football in the Community Officer David Kerslake was delighted to receive it on the Club’s behalf.
The Club was delighted to welcome a group of sailors from NATO’s Standing Naval Force Atlantic, (STANAVFORLANT), for a tour of White Hart Lane.
