The Study Support Centre is run by Centre Manager Anna Rimington who is a secondary teacher by training. Before establishing the Study Support Centre at Tottenham, she had taught English at Hornsey School for Girls in Haringey and Islington Green School in Islington.
Deputy Centre Manager, David Lyall, is an ex-English teacher and writer. He has a collection of poetry coming out in 2004 called 'The Way Continents'.
The Centre relies very heavily on its team of mentors who work closely with the students each session. Ranging in age from 18 to over 50, most of the mentors grew up in the local area and when not working at the Study Centre, most are either college students or work in other educational capacities. Our mentor team from Autumn 2003 consists of:
- Diane Apeah-Kubi
- Fabien Robertson
- Tamlin Howard
- Saffron Harmer
- Paul Coates
- Chris O'Connor
- Janet Willis
- Deniz Yalgin
- Carlene Burgess
- Claire Carballo
- Ricky Williams
- Daniel James
In addition to our paid mentors, we also run a Volunteer Mentor scheme for local 6th Formers. The volunteers give up between 2 and 4 hours of their time each week working at the Study Support Centre.
They gain valuable experience working with children and fulfil their college community commitments at the same time. If we are satisfied with the volunteer, once they are 18, they can progress to being a paid mentor.
If anyone is interested in volunteering at the Study Support Centre, contact Centre Manager Anna Rimington on 0208 880 9370.
