Clive Allen was delighted with the first half performance of our Spurs XI side against Dartford on Monday evening, but less happy with the display in the second period. The boys were six goals to the good at the interval with goals from Adel Taarabt, Leigh Mills, Lee Barnard, Jake Livermore and Andy Barcham (2) securing the considerable advantage before the home side rallied after the break and netted twice, either side of a Charlie Daniels strike.

It made for an entertaining evening of football at the impressive Princes Park.

"It was a fantastic first half, with the way the lads approached the game and the quality of their football," reacted Clive after the game. "The goals we scored were excellent.

"Obviously at this stage of pre-season it was a very good way to get started, but there was disappointment in the second half, although there were reasons for that. We tired and started to do things that we didn't in the first half and paid the price for that.

"There were some very big positives to come out of it, but also some things that we need to work on. Really that is to be expected at this point in our preparations," added Clive, who then went on to explain the withdrawal of his strikeforce of Barnard and Barcham at half-time.

"Barchy got a knock on the knee when he scored and Barney picked up a little toe injury very early in the game. As a precaution more than anything, they came off and it gave the younger ones the opportunity of playing 45 minutes.

"All in all it was a very worthwhile exercise."
