The team dominated possession as an early goal from John Bostock in the fifth minute followed by two quickfire strikes from Souleymane Coulibaly at the start of the second half secured victory against the League Two side.
Northampton had their chances though and Jordan Archer made four fine saves before finally being beaten by Kelvin Langmead for a consolation goal in the final minute.
"It wasn't just the win, the performance was exceptional," said Chris, our Assistant Technical Co-Ordinator.
"We just returned from a good week away training in Portugal, embedded a few things out there and it was good to see the players take it on from that training camp.
"There were times where it looked like we might struggle physically, but we have to stick to the principles of how we want to play. If the play breaks down when we're trying to do that, then we have to get better at doing it.
"Overall though, I thought we moved the ball well and played with a lot of intelligence.
"It was good to see someone like Ryan Mason, a great talent, coming back into it after a few injuries, John Bostock and Dean Parrett both played well, probably the best we've seen from them in a while.
"Jordan Archer also did well for us in goal and made his saves when we needed him to and Souleymane took his goals superbly. He's progressing every day."
