Nathan Byrne continued his recovery from a long-term ankle injury with a goal in our Spurs XI's 2-0 win against the Nike Academy at Spurs Lodge on Tuesday.

The young full-back picked up an ankle injury six weeks into his loan spell at Bournemouth.

He'd played every minute of the first 12 games of the Cherries' campaign before the injury struck at Exeter on September 17.

Back at the club, Byrne played his second friendly for Tim Sherwood's Spurs XI team, completed another 90 minutes and secured the win against a competitive Nike Academy team with the second goal in the 65th minute.

Alex Pritchard went close and both Pritchard and Souleymane Coulibaly forced saves from Reyaard Pieterse before the opening goal on 20 minutes.

It was a fine goal as well as Simon Dawkins played in Ceballos on the right side of the box and the skilful midfielder opened his body up to slide the ball across Pieterse and home.

Coulibaly drilled a yard over from the edge of the box before a decent effort from Nike striker Tashan Adeyinka, who spotted Jonathan Miles off his line but didn't get enough on his effort from distance to trouble the goalkeeper.

Based out of Loughborough University, Nike Academy is made up of players released by professional clubs and they worked hard throughout to deny our players time on the ball.

It took until the 65th minute for Byrne to double the lead. Ceballos switched the play from right to left for Pritchard, he found Byrne and the captain on the day fired across Pieterse and home.

Pritchard, on the ball regularly with Ceballos, went closest to making it 3-0 when he curled a free-kick just over from 20 yards.

Spurs XI: Miles; Waller Lassen, Ekong, Uvini, Byrne; Pritchard, Gomelt (Ricketts, 75), Dawkins (Munns, 60), Ceballos; Angol (Bentaleb, 60), Coulibaly.
