A young Spurs XI side fell to a 1-3 defeat against a mature Crystal Palace team at Spurs Lodge on Wednesday afternoon.

Spurs had most of the possession in the first half but it was Palace who made the best of their chances, with Oscar Jansson making a string of saves to keep out former Spurs striker, Steffen Iversen.

The deadlock was broken by Palace after half an hour, as Kieron Cadogan’s corner was nodded in by the unchallenged Quade Taylor.

Palace doubled their lead six minutes later when Ibra Sekajja’s shot across the goal was parried by Jansson, only for Calvin Andrew to head in the rebound.

Palace rounded-off a clinical 10-minute period with a third goal, Cadogan scoring from the penalty spot after a foul by James Yeboah.

The Spurs youngsters rallied back shortly before half-time, with Daniel Day bursting down the left wing, but Cristian Ceballos’s overhead effort from Day’s cross was sliced wide of the goal.

The momentum continued into the second half, with Ceballos going close again with a rasping 30-yard drive, and the team's persistence paid off in the 76th minute when Ceballos was brought down in the box after good footwork, and the Spaniard coolly converted the resulting penalty to reduce the deficit.

Tottenham continued to threaten in the closing stages, with Lee Angol and Souleymane Coulibaly forcing saves from Palace keeper Lewis Price, but unfortunately the team could not find the back of the net.

Spurs XI: Jansson, Ramil Sheriff (Laste Dombaxe, 45), Daniel Day, Massimo Luongo, Milos Veljkovic, James Yeboah (Jack Munns, 45), Tomislav Gomelt (Ronnie Hawkins, 56), John Bostock, Souleymane Coulibaly, Lee Angol, Cristian Ceballos.

Unused Subs: Jonathan Miles

Crystal Palace XI: Price, Dorman, Daniel, O’Keefe, Taylor, Holness, Sekajja, Garvan, Iversen, Andrew, Cadogan.
