Jo Tessem

Norwegian midfielder Jo Tessem made his Premiership debut against Tottenham during a disappointing 1-0 defeat at the Dell last season. And although the former Molde player scored the opening goal in the return leg at White Hart Lane, it was not a happy day for the Saints, who were crushed 7-2.

Far more pleased on that day will have been Spurs' Darren Anderton, who also got on the scoresheet with a close range effort. The two players clash again on Saturday when Southampton make the trip to north London for the first time since that eventful encounter.

Both Anderton and Tessem have shown a propensity for getting into goalscoring positions this season. The two players have each fired 32 shots on goal, giving each of them the highest totals for midfielders at their respective clubs.

Of the two midfielders, Tessem has been far more accurate with his finishing. He has hit the target with 56% of his shots - nine percentage points better than Anderton - and has consequently outscored the England international by three goals to two over the course of the 2000-01 campaign.

Moreover, Anderton's two goals this season have both come from the penalty spot, and after enduring so many injuries over the years, there is a general feeling that he is not the dynamic midfielder that he once was.

However, the former Portsmouth star can still produce some magical moments from time to time. He has been successful with 73% of his dribbles this term - 12 percentage points better than Tessem - and has been highly creative with his passing.

Indeed, 30% of Anderton's crosses have found a Tottenham team-mate, while Tessem has been accurate with just 16%. This goes some way to explaining why the Spurs midfielder has set up three goals this term - two more than Southampton's Scandinavian schemer.

The Saints gained some form of revenge for their defeats against George Graham's side in the previous campaign, when they recorded a comfortable 2-0 win at the Dell over the Christmas period. However, Tottenham remain unbeaten at White Hart Lane this term and should be backed (at 4/6) to gain another home win on Saturday.
