Tottenham Hotspur v Ipswich Town

Ipswich are slowly becoming isolated at the bottom of the FA Barclaycard Premiership and if the Suffolk side are to avoid relegation at the end of the season they will have to break an unwanted chain.

For every team that has been at the bottom of the table at Christmas in the Premiership has ended up relegated and if they want to avoid the same fate as Swindon, Barnsley and even themselves in 1995, they will have to start winning games and soon.

George Burley's team have yet to win away from home in the Premiership this season and it could be a tall order to inflict defeat on an in-form Tottenham side that has notched 10 goals without reply in their last two games and are in contention for a UEFA Cup place.

However if you think the Tractor Boys can upset the form guide with a shock 2-1 away win then a crisp tenner at 25/1 with surreySPORTS could make it a very Merry Christmas for some lucky punters.

But in reality, Spurs supporters will expect their team to take all three points on Saturday. Only Manchester United, Arsenal and leaders Newcastle have scored more goals than Glenn Hoddle's team in the Premiership so far and their 14% goals-to-shots ratio is double that which Ipswich have managed in the first half of the season.

And in Les Ferdinand the Londoners have a striker whose career has been resurrected since Hoddle took charge of the team last April. The powerful striker made history when he notched the 10,000th goal in the history of the Premiership last weekend, and having managed a hat trick of headers in nine minutes in the 6-0 hammering of Bolton in the Worthington Cup a few days prior to his milestone.

The injury to leading scorer Marcus Stewart has left the Ipswich attack rather toothless and although their shooting accuracy may be more impressive than that of Spurs, their lack of firepower has been one of the major factors in their lowly league position.

Recent signing Marcus Bent has yet to open his account for his new club and surreySPORTS offer a generous 9/1 on the former Blackburn front man opening his account with the first goal of the game on Saturday.

And "Jingle Bells" will certainly be ringing around the visitor's enclosures if Ipswich can record their first away win in this part of north London for almost nine years.

Match referee: M. Riley

Mike Riley has been one of the strictest officials in the Premiership this season issuing an average of 5.88 cautions per game. The Leeds referee should have no problems from these two teams who have been reasonably well behaved during 2001-02.
