Spurs U21s 1-2 Norwich City - report from the Lane

Our unbeaten start to the Barclays U21s Premier League was ended on Monday night as Chris Ramsey's team lost 2-1 against Norwich at White Hart Lane.

Jamar Loza struck first from close range for the Canaries after 35 minutes from Jacob Murphy's cross and the roles were reversed in the second half as Loza turned provider for Murphy to slot home.

Lewis Holtby grabbed his second goal in two matches for the U21s with a cool finish past Matthews in the closing stages but there was to be no repeat of the thrilling comeback that took place against West Ham a couple of weeks ago.

Yet it could have been so different had we converted our possession and hard work into goals as we dominated the majority of the game under the lights at White Hart Lane.

Loza's goal came completely against the run of play as we took the game to Norwich for the opening half hour of the game.

Laste Dombaxe, at the centre of all our attacks, blasted over the bar after a neat one-two with Holtby and the German international almost got on the scoresheet himself on the half hour, shooting just wide when well-placed inside the box.

Norwich took advantage of our struggles in front of goal soon after, Loza converting well from six-yards out with a first time shot past Jonathan Miles.

We had the ball in the net after a superb finish from a tight angle by Dombaxe shortly after the start of the second half only for the goal to be disallowed for offside, and Alex McQueen slid a ball across the face of goal with nobody there to apply the finishing touch as we stepped up the tempo.

While we searched for an equaliser, Norwich would once again strike against the run of play.

Murphy produced a carbon copy of Loza's opener - the number 9 providing the assist with a pinpoint cross - to extend the lead to 2-0 after an hour.

Matthews was quick off his line to deny Coulthirst and Dombaxe had a free-kick palmed over the bar, but Holtby gave us a glimmer of hope five minutes from time.

The midfielder received a pass from Dombaxe 20-yards out, took the ball into the box and finished into the bottom corner of the net to give us a chance of salvaging a point from the game.

Despite keeping the ball well and pinning Norwich back, we were unable to create another opportunity and the Canaries saw out the remainder of the game without a hitch to leave the Lane with three points.
