Luke Amos opened the scoring as the lads dominated the first half at Stevenage.
We were soon up against 10 men in the second half as Schalke’s goalkeeper Christian Wetklo was sent off on 48 minutes.
Shayon Harrison doubled our lead from the penalty spot but the 10 men came back into the game when Florian Pick fired home for 2-1 with 25 minutes remaining.
After a spell of Schalke pressure, Harrison secured the points with a fine header from debutant Japhet Tanganga’s cross.
The result leaves all four teams in the group - including Everton and FC Porto - on three points. Both ourselves and Everton have FC Porto left to play with our final game back at Stevenage on December 23 (12noon KO). The top two teams progress to the quarter-finals.

“There were very pleasing aspects and once we believed that we were better than them we moved the ball well,” said coach Ugo.
“We controlled their attacks, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Milos Veljkovic were outstanding, won everything and put us on the front foot, that gave us the platform.
“It was really about managing the game and that was the only disappointment, because initially we did, but the tendency (against 10 men) is not to do the things you were doing beforehand.
“Hopefully that’s a lesson because we had a few twitchy moments when they pulled a goal back. You could see it coming and it’s then difficult to change that momentum, even against 10 men. Hopefully we’ll learn, we’ll get more ruthless and we’ll do everything 100 per cent right in the future.
“I was pleased for Luke Amos, who showed character to come back from an earlier miss to score, Anthony Georgiou’s crossing, Shayon’s arriving in the box between players, something he’s taking on board, Keanan Bennetts got another run and it was good to see Will Miller back after injury.
“All in all, that win puts us back in the melting pot, gives us more confidence and stretches the run further.”
The lads are now five matches unbeaten and next take on Middlesbrough in the Barclays Under-21 Premier League at the end of the month.
