While the team were put through their paces in training, our legendary former captain got out to see the best of what Florida has to offer by heading to the world famous Daytona International Speedway, around 90 minutes away from our Orlando base.

Since opening in 1959, it has been the home of the Daytona 500, the most prestigious race in NASCAR. In addition to NASCAR, the track also hosts races of ARCA, AMA Superbike, USCC, SCCA, and Motocross.

The track features multiple layouts including the primary 2.5-mile (4.0 km) high-speed tri-oval, a 3.56-mile (5.73 km) sports car course, a 2.95-mile (4.75 km) motorcycle course, and a 1,320-foot (400 m) karting and motorcycle flat-track.

Ledley was taken on a tour of the historic venue before being taken on a few high speed laps of the primary circuit in one of the official pace cars.

He was also asked to put his signature on the starting line alongside hundreds of other famous names from the worlds of sports and showbusiness.

After successfully completing his ride, Ledley said: “I was a little bit nervous before I got here but I actually really enjoyed the ride.

“However, I am well aware that my 120mph ride was gentle in comparison to the speed of the actual race – it’s hard to get your head around how they race at that speed for around four hours in this incredible heat, not to mention with around 40 other cars on the track! It takes a huge amount of courage.

“Overall, it was a great experience and an extremely impressive venue with the sheer size of the grand stand and how steep the track is on the turns.

“I’ve enjoyed my first day in Florida.”
