Spurs score for Footie 4 Iraq

Posted on 29 May 2004  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Amateur footballers in London and all over the UK signed up for a national 5-a-side football tournament that is taking place this May and June in aid of Footie 4 Iraq, a charity campaign to raise money and provide equipment to football-loving Iraqi kids.

The regional heats for the 5-a-side tournament took place at the Power League Soccer Centres on 23 May 2004 with the Grand Final being held on 6 June.

Spurs Community Coaches who took part against seven teams, including a team from the Haringey Independent Newspaper at the Willoughby Lane venue in Tottenham supported the campaign. The Spurs Community team battled well and reached the semi-finals, only to be knocked out on penalties by the Broxbourne Borough team.

Footie 4 Iraq is the UK’s biggest sporting event dedicated to helping the people of Iraq. With involvement from the whole football industry, it aims to raise over £1 million for football-mad Iraqi children to provide them with the resources to play and enjoy the ‘beautiful game’ once more.

The campaign has the support of the Football Association, FA Premier League, Football League and Football Conference as well as the vast majority of their member clubs.

If you’d rather help Footie 4 Iraq from the comfort of your own home or office then log on to and make a bid for one of the fantastic, dream football prizes on offer, including a Ledley King signed shirt.
