Director of football David Pleat has denied stories surfacing in Suffolk that Mauricio Taricco is set for a return to Ipswich Town.
The Argentinian was George Graham's first signing back in November 1998 and established himself as first-choice left-back at Spurs by the end of last season. The arrival of Ben Thatcher from Wimbledon in a big L5m deal this summer led to this speculation back in Ipswich and Pleat revealed that, although Town boss George Burley had made an enquiry, Taricco was going no-where.
Pleat said: "George Burley did ask two or three weeks ago about Mauricio's availability because he saw that we had signed Ben Thatcher. He was probably looking for an extra defender. We had a good conversation but we said we were more than happy with Mauricio and he was staying here. That was the end of it.
"Perhaps someone has said something at Ipswich since then and it's come out in the Press, his agent has been also on asking if it was true.
"It is true Ipswich asked about his availability but he has done well here and we hope he continues to do well here because he is a good club player."
