Ladies so close to history in FA Cup

Posted on 29 February 2016  - 15:00

Spurs Ladies led twice as they chased their first Women's Super League scalp in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Bianca Baptiste - scored both goals against VillaToni-Anne Wayne - fine late save

But it wasn't to be.

Instead, WSL 2 side Aston Villa equalised on both occasions, taking a thrilling fourth round tie into extra time with a late second goal before winning it from the penalty spot in the 109th minute.

It was the team's first defeat in cup competition all season.

Bianca Baptiste handed Spurs the ideal start with the opener after just two minutes levelled by Destiny Toussaint on 29.

Player of the Match Bianca was there again for 2-1 after 64 minutes only for Villa to level via Mollie Rouse seven minutes from time.

Toni-Anne Wayne made a fine late save to ensure the tie went into extra time but could do little to prevent Katie Wilkinson firing home the winner from the penalty spot.

We'll have a full report and the views of manager Karen Hills tomorrow...
