Spurs Ladies were denied back-to-back wins in the FA Women's Super League 2 by Sheffield FC on Sunday.

Three days after a fine win against Oxford in WSL 2, Spurs were always chasing the game at Cheshunt FC and ended up on the wrong side of a 4-2 scoreline.

The result leaves Spurs sixth of 10 in WSL 2 with four matches remaining.

It's a fascinating run-in for the team as well with three of those remaining matches against opposition currently in the top five - Durham next up at Cheshunt this Sunday (2pm), Millwall on Wednesday week (2 May) and the finale against London Bees at Cheshunt on 20 May. They also pay a visit to Aston Villa on 13 May.

Action Summary

Tottenham Hotspur Ladies saw their chances of maintaining the winning feeling from Thursday’s FAWSL 2 win at Oxford soon get away, following a 4-2 defeat to Sheffield FC at Cheshunt Football Ground.

Wendy Martin was denied early but Sheffield took the lead on four minutes when Melissa Johnson took advantage of a bobble deep in Spurs’ half and struck into the bottom right from 20 yards.

Sparked by the goal, Sheffield saw Jenna Dear hit the post, Melissa Johnson head wide and Toni-Anne Wayne produce a fine save to palm Hannah Cain’s long-range strike away all inside 10 minutes.

Spurs responded well. Martin just failed to connect with Jenna Schillaci's corner, Bianca Baptiste volleyed over and Katie O'Leary headed just wide from Baptiste's corner. Dear and Cain went close for the visitors and Josie Green stung Danielle Gibbons' hands from 18 yards. Wayne denied Emma Johnson one-on-one as it stayed 1-0 at the break.

Sheffield crucially doubled their advantage two minutes into the second half as Dear’s free-kick was guided home by Melissa Johnson.
