As the clock ticked towards 7.30am UK time, the lads took their first steps of this summer's training camp in Spain on Friday morning (July 11).

With Juande Ramos watching every move, first team coaches Marcos Alvarez and Gus Poyet and assistant Sam Erith put the lads through their paces on the golf course at the training base.

Kicking-off with a run, the lads went through extensive stretching exercises before a gruelling series of sprints over varying distances up and down small hills by the side of a fairway - all in heat we've not yet encountered back home in England!

The lads were next due in the gymnasium before lunch and a football session this evening.

COMING LATER - Look out for the latest entry from Marcos Alvarez's pre-season diary, when he'll explain exactly what the management team have been looking for on day one of training camp.
