Spurs in SA

Posted on 25 July 2003  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

The club received the red carpet treatment as we touched down in South Africa on Thursday.

Chairman Daniel Levy, Glenn Hoddle, the management team, players and staff were offered a stunning Zulu welcome at Durban Airport.

Danny Jordaan, chief executive of South Africa's 2010 World Cup bid, was also on hand to greet the travelling party as was Lane legend Gary Mabbutt, an ambassador for the 2010 bid.

We were soon whisked away to the hotel and in a busy first day's schedule, Daniel, Glenn, Gary, Jamie Redknapp and Simon Davies faced the press before a training session at Amazulu FC - next door to the towering ABSA Stadium, home of rugby giants Natal Sharks and our clash against Orlando Pirates on Saturday night.

Local street kids watched training and later joined in with the lads.

We'll have a full report of the day's events in our SA Diary alongside all the news and views from the press conference on www.spurs.co.uk later...
