Our legendary former skipper joined French World Cup winner David Trezeguet and ex-Spain international Jose Luis Caminero, representing Juventus and Atletico Madrid respectively, at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
We take on both sides during the tournament in late July, with local A-League side Melbourne Victory also involved.
John Eren, Sports Minister for the State of Victoria, introduced Ledley to speak in front of the gathered media at the Southern Hemisphere’s largest sports stadium.
Ledley said: “It’s great to be here in Melbourne and at such a breathtaking venue to officially launch what will be a fantastic tournament later this year.
“The team visited Sydney just under a year ago and the response we received was fantastic, with over 70,000 people coming to watch us play – we hope to beat that number in Melbourne.
“Our support in Australia is well-established and extremely passionate, so it’s important for us to be able to get the chance to engage with our fans no matter where they are in the world.”
The three former players, along with current Melbourne Victory forward Fahid Ben Khalfallah, then joined local children for a kickaround on the hallowed MCG turf before trying out their Aussie Rules football skills at the nearby AAMI Park.
Ledley then went on the popular Triple M Rush Hour radio station and Foxtel’s AFL 360 show to further promote the Club and the ICC tournament before a dinner with members of our OzSpurs Official Supporters' Club rounding off a busy first day Down Under.
