Italian champions Juventus provide the opposition for a mouth-watering first match in the International Champions Cup in Melbourne. We kick-off at 8pm local time, 11am UK.
But Mauricio is less concerned about Italy’s ‘la Vecchia Segnora’ and completely focused on continuing our pre-season programme, now into a fourth friendly after private matches against Forest, Fulham and Rotherham.
On facing Juventus
Mauricio: “We will not change because we’ve a big team like Juventus in front of us or Atletico Madrid on Friday - two of the biggest clubs in the world. We have our own plans and we need to deliver those plans. We will try to improve in all the areas we need to improve and to see what we do, not to see the teams in front of us. The most important thing in these games is for us to improve our physical condition and to arrive in the best condition for the start of the season against Everton in August.”
On younger players
Mauricio: “We have plenty of young talent and this is a great opportunity for them to show their quality. We are very happy with them and they’ve all done well since the start of pre-season. They are young - 17, 18, 19 - but they are the future of the Club and it’s always good to see them play. This is a great opportunity against Juventus and Atletico Madrid, important games and a chance for them to show personality and character. We trust in them.”
