Spurs first for Fredi

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Fredi Kanoute says it was his desire to get back on the goal trail with Spurs that saw him elect not to make himself available for Mali’s Olympic team. The striker, who was away with Mali on World Cup qualification duty during the close season, is now back in training at Spurs Lodge and hopes to play some part in Saturday’s friendly match at Nottingham Forest.

He featured in three qualifiers in June and July — against Liberia, Zambia and Congo — and the competition resumes on September 4 against Senegal.Fredi began his Mali career back in January when he travelled to the African Nations Cup in Tunisia following a storming start in his first season at Spurs, during which time he scored 12 goals before departing. He now wishes to get cracking again in a Spurs shirt and did not wish to be absent for the first chunk of the season in August.“I made the choice not to go for two reasons, one being to help the young lads back in Mali as it is an under-21 competition and, although you are allowed three players over the age of 23, I thought it was a good opportunity for the emerging players there,” revealed the 26-year-old this afternoon.“I told the manager that I would prefer to concentrate my efforts on the club because it is an important season for Spurs and an important time for me.”
