Growing Press rumours that we have made an offer for two Wimbledon players, striker Carl Cort and defender Ben Thatcher, have not been denied by Director of Football, David Pleat.
Confirmed David Pleat: "There is an interest and we have been speaking to Wimbledon."
The development follows reports last month that we had approached the Dons about Thatcher, although this is the first time an interest in Cort has been mentioned and confirmed.
22-year-old Cort joined Wimbledon as a schoolboy and worked his way through the YTS and reserves, as well as a short spell on loan at Lincoln. An England under-21 international, he scored two minutes into his Wimbledon debut, away at Newcastle in September 1997. He has appeared nearly 100 times for his club, scoring 25 goals. He is pictured here with our own Ledley King, left, in the European under-21 championships in Bratislava in May.
Thatcher is 24 and has played a similar number of games for Wimbledon. He has already experienced a big transfer deal, signing in July 1996 from Millwall for a then club record of L1.8m. He too has been an England under-21 international.
