Paul Stalteri, captain of the Canadian national team, thrilled the members of Spurs Canada with his visit late last month.
The event was held at Scallywags, the Toronto home base for our official Canadian supporters club. Host for the evening was Gerry Dobson, a very familiar face to all Canadians as the main presenter of Premiership games on Rogers Sportsnet over the past several years.
Paul and Gerry discussed life as both a Spurs player and a Canadian international and took questions from the floor, which were answered with honesty and humour. Then, after presenting some terrific door prizes, Paul graciously signed autographs and posed for photos with the large number of supporters who attended.
Clearly impressed with the set-up being established in his home country, Paul said: "Spurs Canada is a very enthusiastic fan group, and that made for a highly enjoyable evening. The event was very well organized and they made me feel very welcome."
Martin Wills, the current President of Spurs Canada, added: "We're very grateful to Paul, after a long season with Spurs and then playing for Canada in the Gold Cup, for giving up his time to come and visit us. It was a great thrill for each and every one of those who were present. Also Gerry Dobson, who has become a friend as well as a fan of Paul's, donated his evening to help make this a great success. We're sure this will enable us to build even stronger support for Spurs over here."
