SPURS AT 125 - A LABOUR OF LOVE

Simon Delaney, co-director alongside his nephew Theo of our ‘Spurs at 125’ commemorative DVD, described almost a year of hard work as a ‘labour of love’.

Simon Delaney, co-director alongside his nephew Theo of our ‘Spurs at 125’ commemorative DVD, described almost a year of hard work as a ‘labour of love’.

The Delaneys have put together a DVD worthy of the Club and the celebration - 125 years of Tottenham Hotspur.

The DVD is divided into 11 chapters and as Simon explained, it’s far from just a chronological history.

“The brief was to produce a DVD both appropriate and respectful to 125 years of Tottenham Hotspur but at the same time, to give it a real fans’ feel,” said Simon. “The result is a much more modern take on a history DVD than you would usually get.

“As Season Ticket Holders, it really was a labour of love and it was fascinating to see the workings of a Club that we’ve always followed.

“Both Theo and I are really proud of it.”

Without giving too much away before the big premiere on September 27, highlights include…

We Are Tottenham – The first chapter of the DVD, underlining what is special about Spurs including interviews with legends, journalists and fans.

Mr Tottenham Hotspur – A chapter devoted to the one and only Bill Nicholson, player and double-winning manager who devoted his life to the Club.

Derby Day – All about the north London derby, the build-up, behind-the-scenes footage and how fans from all over Britain and Europe travel to the biggest game of the season.

The Passing of the Ghost – A special chapter all about one of the greats of that double team, John White, who was sadly cut down in his prime when struck by lightning playing golf at Crews Hill, Enfield, in 1964.

Spurs at 125 – Where the Club is now, including interviews with chairman Daniel Levy, Martin Jol and members of the current squad.

Those are just five of the chapters in the ‘Spurs at 125’ DVD and if that isn’t enough to tempt you in, how about a cast list including Dave Mackay, Pat Jennings, Phil Beal, Ralph Coates, Bobby Smith, Les Allen, David Ginola, Gary Mabbutt, Glenn Hoddle, Jurgen Klinsmann, Martin Jol, Chris Hughton, Clive Allen, Ledley King and Robbie Keane.

The DVD also boasts an original score from no less than musician, composer, arranger and conductor Steve Sidwell, who has recently been nominated for an Emmy Award for a live performance at the Oscars, composed and conducted the famous Honda advert with the choir imitating the sound of the car, worked with Robbie Williams and has film credits including Moulin Rouge, Finding Nemo and Romeo & Juliet.

Finally, to give an insight into the ‘labour of love’ Simon spoke of, here is one of his favourite moments during the making of the DVD.

“We were able to film the lap of honour on the last day of last season against Manchester City at the Lane. There are only two people on the pitch that aren’t either players or coaches, and those people are myself and Theo, capturing the moment for the DVD. That was something special, we were so excited just to be on the pitch!”
