Spurs 4-1 Anji - Euro hat-trick stats

Posted by Tottenham Hotspur on 13 December 2013  - 11:55

Roberto Soldado became the ninth different player in the club's history to score a hat-trick in European competition with his treble against Anji.

Jermain Defoe - now our all-time top European goalscorer - was last to achieve the feat in the group match against Maribor last season.

Martin Chivers, who was top of the Euro charts for 40 years before being overtaken by JD, is the only player to score two hat-tricks for us in Europe.

Only two players have ever scored away European hat-tricks, Alan Gilzean in a 6-1 win in Iceland in September 1971 and Gareth Bale at the San Siro in the 2010-11 Champions League. Bale’s hat-trick is the only Spurs hat-trick scored in Europe when we haven’t won the match.
