Chances were few and far between as temperatures pushed the 100F mark again at the M&T Bank Stadium, home of NFL giants Baltimore Ravens.
We certainly had the better of it though as Harry Kane, Aaron Lennon and Gylfi Sigurdsson all went close in the first half.
Andre Villas-Boas started with a 4-2-3-1 system with Brad Friedel starting in goal and youngster Kane leading the attack on his 19th birthday.
The match started at a decent tempo considering the heat as Stewart Downing's cross curled just wide and Freidel comfortably fielded shots from Joe Cole and Jonjo Shelvey.
Kane had our first chance in the 16th minute when he latched onto Sigurdsson's pass and fired across Brad Jones, the ball zipping just wide.
Friedel had to be sharp to divert Morgan's shot wide at his near post before the half came to life in the final minutes.
Gareth Bale's teasing cross was inches away from Kane but found Lennon racing in at the far post, unfortunately, he could only steer the ball onto the upright.
Seconds later and we were in again as Bale whipped in a cross to the near post and Sigurdsson darted in, glancing his header on target and forcing a fine save from Jones to his left.
Kyle Walker and Andros Townsend replaced Naughton and Bale for the second half.
Liverpool had another couple of early sighters as Nathan Eccleston didn't get hold of a half-chance from the angle and then Martin Skrtel burst forward and shot from the edge of the box, again, easy for Friedel.
The best chance of the half arrived in the 66th minute when William Gallas charged through onto Tom Huddlestone's clip over the top, got to the ball before Peter Gulacsi but clipped his effort wide.
Substitutions then took over and hit the flow of the game and there were no more chances of note, although Michael Dawson showed all his defensive qualities to head away from Andy Carroll as the England striker went in for Rahemm Sterling's dangerous cross.
