Sporting Memories: Simon Davies

Posted on 12 December 2000 - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Simon Davies has lived one of his professional dreams but picks the best goal of his life as his greatest sporting moment.
A 30-yard piledriver helped push his profile as one of the top young players in the Nationwide League and more importantly clinched a local derby victory for Peterborough United against Northampton Town.
Since then the Welsh midfielder has played at Old Trafford — he was a United supporter as a boy — but that goal for Posh remains top of his list.
The 21-year-old from Haverfordwest said: “My greatest moments have been playing at Old Trafford because all my family were there and scoring for Peterborough in the derby against Northampton.
“That goal is probably the best buzz I’ve had. Looking back I can now say I’ve played at Old Trafford but I think personally it would have to be that goal for Peterborough.
“When I played at Old Trafford it brought all the memories flooding back from when I supported them as a young boy. I never actually went to watch them although I was once a ball boy there when they played against Norwich City.
“I also remember when Mark Hughes scored a volley for United against Oldham in the FA Cup. It was in the last couple of seconds and I remember that we all went nuts in our family. It was a massive goal.
“Of course it was superb to play there, a great experience. In the game when the ball went out of play I would just look around and I was thinking ‘what the hell am I doing here?’ It’s like a blur now looking back.”
Davies is a keen golfer so it is no surprise that his greatest sporting moment outside football took place on the golf course.
“It is a tough one but I’d have to say watching the European team win at Valderama in 1997,” he added. “I watched all of that and it was great.”

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
