The game falls closest to the Club’s first competitive match back in 1882 and is therefore our designated 125th Anniversary Match.
It promises to be a memorable celebration of both our glorious history and the man who helped define that history - Mr Tottenham Hotspur, Bill Nicholson.
There are a number of fund-raising activities on the night that will benefit the Bill Nicholson Memorial Fund, a fund set up in Bill’s honour that aims to benefit grass roots football and community projects.
Firstly, there will be a raffle at half-time giving the chance to win a unique copy of the Tottenham Hotspur Opus – the biggest and best-ever book on Spurs. This copy will be personalised with winner’s name and worth in excess of £4,000. Raffle tickets will cost just £2 each (three for £5) and available to purchase from sellers around the ground and in the Club’s retail outlets.
Secondly, we have put together a special, unique edition of our official matchday programme. A4 in size and a massive 148 pages – by way of contrast, this season’s programme runs at 84 pages - this prestigious publication will feature special commemorative features and previously unpublished photographs alongside current news and interviews. The programme will cost £10 with all proceeds to the Bill Nicholson Memorial Fund.
In addition, there will be a souvenir t-shirt available to purchase on the night at £10 where again, all proceeds will be donated to Bill’s Memorial Fund.
Finally, the Club will auction unique items of memorabilia from the match including shirts worn by the players at a date after the game. Details of this unique online auction will be communicated via our website.
Back to the night’s celebrations…
White Hart Lane will be illuminated with lights and projections while searchlights will be beamed in the sky to herald our anniversary.
The section of the High Road alongside White Hart Lane will be liveried with images of some of our legends and every supporter attending will be given a special commemorative flag to help create a carnival, party atmosphere in the stands.
We urge fans to wear their favourite Spurs shirt from whatever period they most enjoyed or to wear Club colours to add to what promises to be an amazing spectacle within the stadium.
We also request that supporters arrive early at the stadium as one of the largest ever assemblies of Spurs Legends from the last several decades will be introduced to the crowd from 7.30pm.
We expect up to 50 former greats to be there to mark the occasion.
See you there!
Fans attending our home clash against Aston Villa on October 1 have a very special evening in store as we celebrate 125 years of Tottenham Hotspur.
