Sound Offs: On Robbie

Posted on 10 September 2002  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Gary O'Keefe: The prospect of Teddy and Serg' rotating alongside Keano typifies the spurs way of playing football and will certainly threaten a few defences. That style of play coupled with the midfield talent of Matty and Simon and Leds and big G at the back makes this season a realistically ambitious one.

Paul Geoghegan: Could be the best bit of business since signing Klinsmann... and paying just 7 million for a proven goal-scorer and one of the stars of the last World Cup... great work by Hoddle.

Andrew Pockett: The signing of Robbie Keane was brilliant he's young, bright, talented and is a player that can add a lot to Spurs, we still need another quality striker and I would recommend the excellent Walter Pandiani who seems to score goals at free will for Deportivo or another good attacking mid/striker Boca juniors young talente Ezequiel Gonzalez, I can't wait to see Robbie in action when we take on West Ham, Good luck Robbie and may you bring good fortune with you.

Banji Alabi: Keane and Rebrov - "KeaRov" Just like the ballet (Kirov ballet) or the Kirov class submarine of Russia. Elegance with an appetite for destruction at the same time.

Dave Murthi: It's a great signing. There's not really a lot to say about it, except that it shows our club is forward thinking and hasa an eye for potential. I believe that with payer such as Daz, Ethers, Davies and Milo playing behind him, we will finally have a strikeforce to partner our already great midfield. As a partner Teddy, Iversen or Rebrov could do well. If rebrov was only given a chance to work with Keane, they could be a great partnership. Rebrov wasn't top scorer in the champions league for nothing you know... Another class striker in January could go down a treat. GO SPURS!

Adam Benjamin: As great a player as Robbie is, I can't help but feel a little disappointed after the names (Crespo, Rivaldo, Morientes) we've been linked with. Still, he's younger than all of them, and proven in the Premiership, so should be a fantastic acquisition.

Jimmy Chan: I think it is the BEST sign of the summer. He will mke a great partnership with Teddy. But others player we signed a great as well.

Simon Williams: Excellent time to join us @ the top of the league... now try and keep us there... well at least we will definitely be in the top six this year!!!

Paul McCormack: I think the signing of Robbie Keane was a great bargain. Now all we have to do is take a step back, look at the squad with unbiased eyes, and see that its time to play the most expensive member of the squad alongside him, Sergei Rebrov. For many reasons this should be the case, but to say just a few, the others are either too old or just not as good, Rebrov is clearly a great player whose career has been ruined by Spurs and finally, the Rebrov-Keane partnership would be both a long term sound investment of a few matches together, and it would work in a similar vain to the great way (Damien) Duff and Keane worked for Ireland in recent times.

Tom Geoghegan: I think Robbie will be a good buy. He has lots of pace and an eye for goal. The one big weakness is his height which means no high balls into the penalty area! Still we are a ball playing team and that will suit his style. Great to be top of the league again.

Dave Timmins: I think Robbie is a great signing an experienced youngster. I also think it is great that we are top of the league at the moment. However I still have my doubts. We have been playing teams that we should be beating to get a mid-table finish. I have huge doubts about our defence. I think Kasey Keller has kept us in every game this season due to poor defending.

Richard Kurtini: Rebrov, Keane and teddy just behind.....by far the best we have got.

James Bell: Keane and Teddy will link up well. and you've got the option of bringing on Les or Ivo for the last half hour when Teddy tires. But i still think we need to strengthen in midfield, and when the transfer window reopens i think we should move for Matt Holland.

B Keane is an excellent buy, but lets not rest on our lorals, we need another striker with a killer instinct. Keane is a great player but someone like Kevin Phillips or Hasselbaink (if they'd sell him) would be ideal. Keane will give us entertainment and maybe 20 goals a season but to achieve champions league status we need a 25 to 30 goal striker. You only have to look at Van Nistleroy, Henry, Owen and Shearer to see what we need. On a positive note I still think Keane, Redknapp and Acimovic will help us to get into the top six.

Genette Baisden: I think the signing of Robbie Keane is brilliant, just what we need at Tottenham. There has been a lot of talk in the papers surrounding the whole situation of Keane being last on the list, and why would we want to buy a journey man. Well i would take this journey man any day, 22yrs old in a team where he will be getting 1st team football week in week out. I personally think Keane can only get better !! Let people say what they want to about him, im sure he will shut a few critics up when he is banging in goal after goal ( hopefully passed R Sol )It seems to me a few people are begining to feel they need to start looking over their shoulders a bit because of where this club is going.
