Sound Offs - On Postiga (2)

Posted on 1 July 2003  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

More of your reactions to the signing of Portuguese international striker Helder Postiga...

Kevin Sullivan: Great signing Glenn. Helder and Robbie together up front equals real excitement for next year. Now if we can bring Bobby Zamora in alongside them what a fabulous mouth watering combination that would be - the most exciting young forward line in the Premiership. How about Michael Brown in midfield? and a vastly experienced TOP central defender to round things off nicely. Going the right way for next season. C'mon you Spurs!!

Michael Lambert: I think the capture of Postiga is a great step forward for the club. He should work well with Robbie Keane, and them two have to be the best young partnership in the league. All we need now is a good energetic young midfielder like Joe Cole. COME ON U SPURS!!!!!!!

Gary O'Brien: I think the sisning of Postiga is excellent now we will have two hard working strikers. We should still try and get Kanoute as cover. Get a left back and Scott Parker and Spurs will be a top 5 club again.

Marty Kelly: I think that it is a great signing & believe that with a few more additions we can get into Europe next season. I believe the Cameroon international Mbama is an excellent player at aged only 20 has a great future also I believe he could be got on the cheap.

Ben Garner: Postiga could be the quality striker we are looking for to partner Keane. After hearing that we could sign him, I honestly hadn't heard much about him. Only when his picture was labelled did I realise who he was but if you can score nineteen goals, be top goalscorer in the under 21 tournament and score two on your international debut you can't be to bad.

Dan England: All praise to Glenn! The signing of Postiga is an amazing step forward with Postiga and Keane up front next season euro can only beckon next season. The future looks bright at spurs. COME ON YOU SPURS!!!

John Nicolson: We haven't had two top quality strikers at Spurs since 94-95 when Sheringham and Klinsmann played together. It might be putting alot of weight on a 20-year-old's shoulders, but he could be a huge building block in the restoration of Spurs to the top.

Louis Gavin: Superb signing, young, fast and strong. But this needs to be the start of many new faces coming in. We definitely need another striker to cover as Iversen is injury prone. Also a attacking midfielder (maybe give Blondel a shot this year) a defensive midfielder and a centre back. Then I see us qualifing for europe.

David Hattersley: So the Glenn of old reminds us that the player is the manager... thoughtful, considers his options, taking time to invest in youth, bearing in mind the team he was bought up in - the young side of the late 80's that gelled and wanted to play for Spurs. The Galvins, the Crooks, the Ardiles, the Roberts, the Perrymans, the Hughtons and, yes, Glenn himself. Those young enough to make an impact yet loved their Spurs. Look at it now, no short term buys - Keane, Davies, now Postiga. He knew how long it took Keith Burkinshaw to re-build.

Mark Huttley: Postiga is great news! I talk regularly on 606 and the whole Spurs board lit up when the news was released. This is going to be a great season for Spurs, if we can sign maybe another centre back and a central midfielder we will be able to challenge for something this season! So long as Glenn unleashes the youth (so long as they can handle it), we can really do well!

Ashley Amakoh: The signing of Postiga shows good preperation for the future, but need to bring in more talent show his ability, I think. Michael Tonge would be a good buy and why don't we get Mendieta on loan? He can only do our midfield good! And lets unleash Milo's ability on the premiership... after all he tormented some of the best at the World Cup!

Matt Baker: Postiga is a GREAT signing for us he is exactly what we needed to play up front with Keano and I'm sure they will bring many goals for the super Spurs next season. Bring on more signings Glenn - Kanoute and Parker would be good. Come on you Spurs.

Andrew Pockett: I think the signing of Helder is an absolute brilliant signing! We lacked pace going forward, I believe now that we must purchase some midfielders and definitely new defenders. I don't understand why Glenn doesn't look to South America for great players. As a Boca fan as well as a massive Spurs fan i can recommend Nicolas Burdisso who is simply a class defender, Clemente Rodriguez as a left back and the super Carlos Tevez as the other striker. Spurs should buy these as these players will go fairly cheap!

Stuart Miles: Postiga looks a good buy, I'm sure he will add a lot to our attacking options, hopefully he will be able to handle the pace of the Premiership. I think we need to inject more youth and pace into the current squad and if we can get signings like Scott Parker, Kanoute, Joe Cole, and a ball winner like Mcann or P Neville, who knows where it could take us?

Nick Teff: I think the signing of POSTIGA will be one of the signings of the season. He has a great reputation in europe, and has proved himself in European competition. I would love us to sign another spurs supporter in Scott Parker. COME ON YOU SPURS.

N Cook: Haven't seen Postiga play much myself but what I've read in the papers he should be a great signing !! Now hopefully we can push on and sign another striker (kanoute/zamora/Earnshaw) and a defensive midfielder in the Roy Keane mould, we should be pushing for a place in the top six.

Gary Precious: Postiga does look a very good signing for us but I still think we need to bring in another striker as cover - Kanoute or Zamora would be good.

Jack Jones: Helder will be a Great Signing for us. This proves that our intentions are serious this time. Although I am happy we still need a few more big names to get us back to where we belong. I would like to see Laursen and Kanoute here as well as Scott Parker, who will be great. Come on u Spurs!!!!!

John Ferguson: Postiga could prove to be an inspired signing. He has pace, ability and knows where the net is - things that have been lacking for some years. If Keane can learn to release the ball more often, he and Postiga should form a potent partnership. We just need a ball winning midfielder, a left back and a third striker then, who knows, it may be happy days at the Lane again.
