Sound Off: Strikeforce

Posted on 4 June 2001 - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

For our latest Sound Off we asked ‘What would your preferred strikeforce be for the new campaign?’<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Here are the first batch of opinions…
From Loksan Harley, Crowhurst: I think that the best strikeforce would be Sheringham playing just behind Rebrov who could be used as a target man, although Les Ferdinand linked up well with Sheringham in the run up to France '98. When Teddy was here before he had a lethal partnership with Armstrong.
From Stephen Course, Bexley: I think that Sheringham’s height is just what we need and that he and Sergei should do very well together, providing they don't both drop deep. I think that Les Ferdinand will be excellent as a third striker, to come on as a sub, but I think we should buy a real poacher like Robbie Fowler.
From Henning Andersen, Thisten, Denmark: With Ted back at the club, Hoddle's now in a very favourable situation in terms of attacking set-up. In future, offensive strenghts will be instrumental in Spurs' hunt for glory, and either 4-3-3 or 3-4-3 formation would utilise the squad in terms of quality. Should Hoddle opt for a three-flavour strikeforce, the obvious choice would be to use Rebrov, Teddy and Les Ferdinand up front, or perhaps Iversen up front with Teddy right behind the strikeforce. In both cases we'll be able to use our strikers of genuine quality that they've proven for plenty of seasons.
From David Graham, New York, USA: I think that the first choice strikers should be Les and Rebrov. That doesn't mean no place for Sheri. With his skill, I would like to see him in the centre of midfield next to Davies.
From Oystein Skregelid, Moi, Norway: Sheringham behind the two strikers Rebrov and Iversen/Ferdinand. Sheringham and Rebrov must play, and they should have a big, strong man up front with them. We must also have a creative midfielder who can supply the attackers with good passes. Frenchman Carriere would be a good option there.
From Sam Mollah, Rochester: Firstly I think that Glenn Hoddle is a world class manager - perfect for life at the Lane! Now he's got to concentrate on choosing a lethal strike force. I think the best thing to do is play Teddy and Ferdinand up front with Rebrov just behind them - that would be unstoppable!
From Sean Trainor, Eastbourne: The new strikeforce has obviously got to be Teddy and Sergei. We need to ensure the little dynamo is given the service he needs. Who more than Teddy can give him that?
From Dan Sheppard, Caerphilly: Not sure here. Teddy and Sergei are very similar, they like to create and drop back into midfield. Perhaps Glenn is planning to play three up front, with Teddy and Sergei playing behind Steffen Iversen or Les Ferdinand, or is Glenn bringing in another striker to spearhead our attack? At this moment we're being linked with anyone and everyone, so who knows!
