Sound Off: Is Ledley the new king?

Posted on 7 November 2001  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

From James Fisher, Bedford: My opinion is that Ledley is soon to be the new and improved Mr Campbell. He has all the qualities that Sol once had, and he also fails to look nervy once he has the ball at his feet. Watchin Sol for Arsenal, you can tell he is uncomfortable when the ball is at his feet, a problem that our man King does not have. After reading three or four papers after the England U21 squad was announced, many columnists have predicted Ledley to be introduced into the full England set up before the World Cup next year - and who can blame them? The way in which he has progressed this season shows his potential quality for club and country, although he should not be put under too much pressure too quickly. Definitely a world star by 2006, if not 2004, who knows? Maybe 2002! Go on Sven, give our man a go!

From Chris Elgey, Norton: Ledley has done well this season and looks like becoming a quality player for us. He reminds me of Sol but with a bit more control when he's on the ball. In my opinion he is the best of the Premiership's young defenders and if he keeps performing like he is now he can only improve and I'm sure he can impress Sven.

From Daniel Mendez, Canvey Island: Ledley King is all there, he's got pace, strength and composure. Lets just hope Tony Gardner, Gary Doherty and Alton Thelwell can follow suit.

From Steve Course, Bexley: Without a doubt, Ledley should be in the England team now. I was worried how we would defend without Sol but I needn't have worried, he did Tottenham and England a favour going to Arsenal, as Sven has surely now noticed that Ledley, Deano and John Terry should be ahead of any other centre backs. Ledley is the best of the three.

From Jay Vickers, Plymouth: Ledley definitely is one of the finest defenders around at the moment but needs a little more experience before he hits the peak of his career. With Adams and Keown now too old England could do with a young exciting centre back and I think Ledley will be unlucky to miss out on a World Cup spot.

From Stephanie Baharie, Plymouth: Leds is doing a good job to make us proud. He's got a good future ahead of him and I think that he is doing just as well (if not better) than his predecessor. The rest of the team have been doing great as well. You've exceeded my expectations already this season by making it to seventh in the league table. We've had some difficult to swallow results and some excellent ones. Keep up the good work guys, I'm proud to be a Spurs fan.

From Adrian Martin: Ledley deserves all the acclaim he is getting and one day WILL play a huge role for England. The signing of Deano will take the pressure off him and he will learn a lot from him. The only English centre back who deserves to be in ahead of Ledley is Rio Ferdinand....but barely.
