But that didn’t stop the Dutch goalkeeper describing Hugo Lloris’ recent saves against Bayer Leverkusen and Bournemouth as ‘amazing’.
Back in the side and performing admirably again against Liverpool in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night, Michel took time out to pay tribute to a goalkeeper he knows better than most.
“I’ve been working with Hugo now for almost three years, I know him ever so well and you can see that he has a lot of confidence and deserves all the credit,” said Michel, who was back in the Dutch squad for the last international break.

“He trains very hard and sometimes in training sessions I have that feeling where I think ‘how did you do that?’. If it then happens in a game and it’s important for the team it’s fantastic.
“You only have to think about those saves he made against Leverkusen and Bournemouth, just amazing.
“It gives you the feeling that Toni Jimenez is doing something right if you make such saves because that’s also the way we work. You have to have a bit of luck sometimes but that’s part of the game.”
