At the Sunderland game, the Club was delighted to welcome serving members of the 2nd Battalion The Rifles (2 Rifles) and 4th Battalion The Rifles (4 Rifles). They received a fantastic reception from supporters and Sergeant Major Colin Nufer of 4 Rifles wrote to the Club to offer his gratitude.
"It was a true honour for us to lead the teams onto the pitch and the rapturous ovation that greeted us from the fans brought a lump to the throat of all who marched out there," he said.
"This appreciation has given us untold faith in the Great British public and has given us a new level of pride in all that we, and indeed all members of the Armed Forces, has achieved.
"This level of pride extends to our support for you and our association with Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. The gracious and heartfelt respect and support that both you and all at the club have extended to us is quite outstanding and so very much appreciated.
"Please can you also thank the team players who took the time to come up and see us. All soldiers commented on how friendly, sincere and utterly decent they all were."
