The boss admitted after Saturday’s defeat at Coventry City that we were leaking too many goals and giving head starts to the opposition too often.
He pondered: “It’s not like my teams, which are normally more solid at the back.”
Asked what he could do about the problems, George replied: “Get Sol Campbell back as quickly as we can.”
Big Sol has been out for almost a month after dislocating his shoulder and subsequent keyhole surgery to repair the damage. He is expected to be out for another fortnight.
The problem has been compounded by a host of defensive injuries with Luke Young (foot) and Mauricio Taricco (groin) both out and youngsters Ledley King and Anthony Gardner only just returning to action after long-term injuries.
George added: “I’ve five defenders out, Luke Young, Taricco - a lot of defenders injured at the moment.
“It’s difficult in the Premiership to give teams a goal start and get something out of the game. We can defend better than that and it’s an uphill struggle then.
“We look quite good going forward and we definitely deserved something.
“In the second half we played well, there was much more purpose to our play but we needed a break. The keeper made a great save, we hit the crossbar — we definitely deserved something from the game.”
George Graham has a straightforward solution to our recent defensive problems.
