Social Spurs - Graham Roberts Q&A

Posted on 14 March 2014  - 08:30

Legendary midfielder Graham Roberts joined us for an exclusive question and answer session on @SpursOfficial - here are the results...

What was your most memorable game in a Spurs shirt? From @Daily_Hotspur
Graham Roberts: “It would have to be the UEFA Cup in 1984, being captain, scoring the equaliser and helping lead us to the trophy.”

Which centre-back past or present would you have liked to have played with? From @JelTM
Graham: “I’d have to say Ledley, he was brilliant. He had everything. He had one leg and he was still quick than everyone else. If he had two good knees he would have been in the England team forever. Present, Jan Vertonghen and I like Younes Kaboul as well."

Who was the better player – Ardiles or Hoddle? From @francissavege
Graham: “Hoddle was the best, passing-wise, there was no-one better. Ardiles was under-rated. Ossie made everything tick. He would take the ball off us at the back and be that link and then when teams were attacking us, he’d always get back and nick the ball off them.”

Would you rather us win the Europa League or qualify for the Champions League? From @hotspurnews1882
Graham: “To be honest, I’d love to see us win a trophy. I was watching the TV earlier and the City and Sunderland fans all going down Wembley Way, that’s the idea. If we win one trophy, we’ll win more. Having said that, I understand the Champions League.”

In your opinion, who are the top three strikers you’ve seen play for Spurs? From @I_AM_TOTTENHAM
Graham: “Steve Archibard was a great player, Teddy Sheringham and you have to go with Klinsmann as well. Jimmy Greaves as well, I didn’t see him play. Of the players I played with or were in my era, I’d say those three.”

Who was the hardest player you ever faced? From @littlejason
Graham: “Mick Harford, Cyrille Regis, Billy Whitehurst, Graeme Souness, I played with and against him and he was tough.”

Who do you think is our biggest talent coming through? From @the realdavebull
Graham: “Nabil has done well, I like Ryan Fredericks and I think the better players he plays with, the better he will get. We’ve some got youngsters at the club.”

Would you have changed anything in your football career? From @Harrishotpsur
Graham: “Yes, I shouldn’t have left Spurs. I went to Rangers and enjoyed every minute of it but I was always Tottenham through and through. This is my club.”

Who was the most influential person in your career? From @domdenis_
Graham: “Keith Burkinshaw, Stuart Morgan ay Weymouth. Keith was fantastic. It was almost father and son. He kept my feet on the ground.”

Who was the best player you played against? From @Cooperstar1980
Graham: “Kenny Dalglish, Ian Rush, tough games, but I enjoyed them. Peter Withe at Villa, Andy Gray, Graham Sharp. In Europe, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge at Bayern Munich, Cruyff. I remember the game against Barcelona here. If you looked at that game and Barcelona now, you wouldn’t have thought it was the same club. They kicked us off the park. I scored the goal at the Paxton Road end and there were five of them chasing after me!”
