Robbie Keane maintained his extraordinary goalscoring record against his former clubs as we signed off in style at Molineux.
The Irish star - a hero figure in this part of the Black Country - opened the scoring in the first half to send us on our way to a 2-0 victory and make it six goals in five games against Wolves, Leeds United and Coventry City in the Carling Cup this term.
It was an eventful afternoon with three players ending their Premiership careers in Denis Irwin, Christian Ziege and Gus Poyet and one starting it - and Mark Yeates grabbed his first chance to shine in a Spurs shirt.
The livewire Irish midfielder was typically bright and perky on the right side of midfield and marked his debut with a hand in Keane's opener.
It was far from end-of-season fayre with Wolves bristling from the first whistle before Keane's goal put us in the driving seat at the interval, Jermain Defoe's classy finish after Carl Cort's disastrous back pass and then Paul Ince sent off for a second yellow card, hacking down Jamie Redknapp after a crunching 50-50 between the pair.
Unfortunately the game slipped into neutral after Ince's dismissal, a drearly ending punctured by two fine saves from the excellent Paul Jones in the Wolves goal.
As expected, Wolves came out firing and rocked us back in the opening stages.
It took just 30 seconds for Ince to first test Kasey Keller, a cunning chip from the edge of the area that the keeper did well to read and tip over.
Henri Camara had a great chance three minutes later but failed to get hold of Lee Naylor's cross six yards out before Keller excelled again, tipping Cort's header onto the crossbar before Ledley King mopped up.
Irwin came closest to opening the scoring and marking his final appearance with a goal when his trademark 25-yard free-kick clipped the post with Keller at full stretch after 15 minutes.
But, with Yeates prominent from the right side, we clawed our way back into the game.
Ziege curled straight at Jones from 20 yards before a spectacular save from the Welshman to deny Rohan Ricketts, picked out by Yeates at the far post.
Yeates would soon have his moment though. With 33 minutes on the clock, he injected pace into a move, slid in Keane and after Jones blocked his initial shot, the Irish striker popped the ball in off the post.
We were the better side in the second half. Keane was denied by a combination of Naylor and Jones two minutes after the restart and following Shaun Newton's fluffed attempt, we doubled the lead on 56 minutes.
Cort actually did well to break up a move but ruined it by rolling a back pass way too short for Jones and Defoe finished clinically, taking the ball around the stranded keeper before slotting home.
Always lovely, the game went downhill following the sending off of Ince for a second bookable offence after upending Redknapp.
There were two more incidents of note. Jones saved well with his feet to keep out Kanoute's deflected shot following Yeates' pass and, two minutes from time, Jones tipped Defoe's drive onto the post.
