So near, so far for Ziege

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Glenn Hoddle is convinced Christian Ziege would be back in action now if a knee problem hadn't hampered his recovery from a horror thigh injury.

The German star needed emergency surgery after his thigh muscle blew up to twice its size - known as 'decompartmentalised' - after the Boxing Day clash against Charlton.

His recovery was going full-steam ahead until he twisted his knee in March - thankfully there was no serious damage.

"If it was just his thigh he would have been back," said Glenn. "But he just tweaked a knee ligament which was a blow because he would have been fit.

"His thigh was fantastic and he'd come back very quickly after what was a horrific injury. It's a blow for him and very frustrating."
