The versatile defender described a testing first week of training at Hotspur Way as the players prepare for the big kick-off at Manchester United in the Premier League on August 8.

"It’s been tough, which is to be expected with a lot of gym work and a lot of running," said Eric, who enjoyed a fine debut season with us last term.

"In previous summers I’ve had international matches and that has meant I’ve missed the start of pre-season, so this is actually the first pre-season I’ve had from the beginning.

"Now we’re at the end of the first week everyone is feeling really good and it should stand us in good stead going into the season."

Eric said the players have pushed each other when the going has got tough.

"Everyone has done well and it's good we're pushing each other, it really helps," he said.

"Dele Alli and Nabil Bentaleb have been really impressive in the endurance running. Everyone knew about Nabil but Dele seems to be getting close to him so it’s been interesting! He's put up a good test!"
