Cardiff City won the title by eight points, Hull City grabbed the second automatic spot in dramatic style on the final day and Crystal Palace recovered from a late dip in form to beat Brighton and then Watford to take the final place via the play-offs.
‘Smithy’ faced Cardiff and Hull in his 25 appearances on loan at Millwall in the Championship last season.
And we take on Palace at Selhurst Park on the opening weekend of the 2013-14 campaign.
Full-back Adam feels the performances of the likes of Swansea, Norwich and Southampton in the Premier League after promotion will give heart to the teams preparing for the top flight this time around.
“Cardiff have a great team spirit, impressive wingers and the right mix of youth and experience,” said Adam, who also made one appearance for us last term, in the Capital One Cup win at Carlisle.
“You can then throw in a player of the quality of someone like Craig Bellamy and you can see why they did so well. They deserved to win the title.
“Hull didn’t really have a goalscorer but they played good football. It was quite similar to how Wigan play. In fact, Hull and Watford both passed it well last season.
“Palace had Zaha and Bolasie on the wings, tricky players. Everyone knows about Zaha and now he’s at United. Millwall drew 0-0 at Palace right at the end of the season and they did well to win through the play-offs.
“What the likes of Swansea, Norwich and Southampton have done is prove teams can come up from the Championship and do well.”
