Ledley King feels it is encouraging for the the England team that, despite the depth and quality of Chelsea's squad, John Terry and Frank Lampard are the mainstays of the first X1.
Our new skipper knows both players from England duty, but has enjoyed a close association with Terry from their days playing together for Sunday side Senrab. He suspects, despite the infusion of many top players from overseas, Chelsea would struggle to replace the English pair.
"It's true," he reasoned. "There are great English players out there and Terry and Frank Lampard are the backbone of the Chelsea side. They are probably two players you couldn't replace even with all the money.
"I have know John since about ten or eleven, that young. He was a midfield player in those days but had the same leadership qualities. It is evident in his play today, he is a great captain and a great player."
He is also a rival for an England central defensive berth...
"I suppose so, there is quite a few of them there though. They are all good players and it is quite difficult for anyone to nail down a spot. It is good that there are so many good players in that position and it can only be good for England."
